As an effort to woo in more local spectators, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) annouced special discounts on tickets for the 2004 
Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, which includes a price reduction up to 21 percent and also a 50 percent discount tickets for students.


'The SIC Board has decided on the special discounts and ticket price reduction to encourage more Malaysians to come to the circuit and enjoy the race,' its chairman Datuk Mokhzani Tun Mahathir said in a statement today.

'The idea is to get more people into the circuit without decreasing ticket sales recenue as compared to last year. I believe this pricing structure strikes the right balance to achieve that goal,' added Mokhzani.

Whilst prices at the Main Grandstand upper tier are being maintained prices for seats at the lower-tiered Citrine, Turquoise and Jade as well as at the K1 Grandstand has been lowered up to RM300.

With the new prices, tickets at Crystal are now priced at RM200 cheaper at RM1,200 for entry on all three days from 19th to 21st March. Against its previous price of RM1,400 rickets at Turquoise are now priced at only RM1,100.

Seats at Jade are now priced at RM1,000 for a three-day package as compared to RM1,200 previously. Platinum seats at the K1 Grandstand have been reduced from 1,200 to 1,000 while the Gold seats are lowered to RM800, which provide a savings of RM200.

'Those who had purchased tickets at the affected areas will be refunded accordingly. For the corporate purchases, refund will be in form of additional tickets,' said Mokhzani, adding they can call the TICKET HOTLINE at 03-8526222 on the procedure for refunds.

'Corporate buyers can call directly SIC's Sales Department at 03-85262075,' added the SIC Chairman.

Limited to one ticket per buyer, students can now get their F1 tickets at only RM50 for entry at Hillstand G, where tickets are priced at RM100 to catch the race live in Sepang on 21st March 2004. A valid student ID will be required to qualify for the discount.

For governemnt employees, Sepang International Circuit is offering a 15 percent discount on all Hillstand seats and each buyer can buy a maximum of two tickets only.

Students and government employees need to make their purcahses before March 14, 2004 either at the circuit or during the 2004 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix naitonwide road shows, which will kick off at the Suria KLCC Kuala Lumpur on February 6.

The 2004 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix road show would move to Johor Bahru from 12th to 15th February before proceeding to Melaka on the following weekend. The Formula One promotions will be conitnue in Ipoh from 27th to 29th February before coming back to Kuala Lumpur.

Datuk Mokhzani said that he hoped the local fans especially the students would not let the opportunity slipped.

'Apart from the world calss, thrilling excitement of Formula One, fans will also see action from the Porsche Carrera Cup and the Formula Malaysia series, which will be the support races for the 2004 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix,' he said.

Hillstand G, Mokhzani said, provides vantage view of all the actions at Turns 3, 4, 5 and 6 as well as a long straight from Turn 3 to Turn 4, adding that at RM50, it is a very good buy.

With eight more weeks to go to the 2004 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix and a target of 120,000 sepctators, Sepang International Circuit has so far sold 10 percent of the total tickets available.

'As compared to the same period last year, ticekts sales for 2004 is better and the prospects looks good. With the new incentives, we are hoping more Malaysian fans will purchase the tickets,' said Mokhzani, adding that the domestic promotion would start with the F1 roadshow at KLCC Kuala Lumpur.

Of the 120,000 targeted specatators, Sepang International Circuit is hoping to secure 70,000 local fans. This, he said, was in line withe circuit's aspiration to build more interest among Malaysians for Formula One and motorsports.

Malaysia will host Round 2 of the 2004 Formula One World Championship form 19th to 21st March 2004. THe season opnes in Melbourne, Australia on March9.
